About the Book

What is The Queensland Book of Memories?
The Queensland Book of Memories is part of the Australian Book of Memories. It records, in words and photographs, the lives of ordinary Queenslanders, some famous and some not, whose families and friends have chosen to keep their memory alive in a lasting form for future generations to see.

Over time, these works will grow to fill many volumes, with each individual personal history printed on paper that has a life of five hundred years and more.

Sample page from The Queensland Book of MemoriesCopies of every page are bound into volumes with separate volumes for each State and Territory. One copy of every volume will be sent to the National Library in Canberra. Copies will also be sent to the corresponding State or Territory Libraries. Copies of all pages are  retained in the archives of the National Trust of Queensland.

A copy, suitable for framing, is mailed to the family or individual who has ordered the entry in the Queensland Book of Memories.

In addition, each entry is published here on the Australian Book of Memories website for viewing by relatives and friends across Australia and overseas.

What does The Queensland Book of Memories record?
As the illustration here shows, a page in The Queensland Book of Memories records the name of the person being remembered, their significant dates and where they were born. There is provision for up to 700 words per page. In addition, an entry may feature one or more photographs. These may be in black & white, sepia or colour. If you want more than three photographs per page you will need to reduce the number of words or you can purchase additional pages.

Who is behind The Queensland Book of Memories?
The Queensland Book of Memories is an initiative of The National Trust of Queensland. The stated mission of this respected organisation is “To identify, preserve and promote Queensland’s built, natural and cultural heritage.” The Queensland Book of Memories preserves the memory of men, women and even children, from all walks of life, whose lives have been a part of Queensland - and for whom Queensland has been a part of their life.

Who is eligible for an entry in The Queensland Book of Memories?
Entries are accepted for any persons of any age whose lives were involved with Queensland, no matter where they may have been born and wherever they may have died. It is, of course, essential that the person being eulogised is deceased.
